Does Fear Paralyze You—Or Motivate You?

As women who have endured breast cancer, many of us used to list “fear of recurrence” as our top fear. And then 2020 hit. And then 2021. Our list of fears just seems to be expanding with every passing day. 

But few of us have taken the time to understand fear. And all of us look at fear in different ways. Our beliefs about fear began in our childhood and have been shaped by experiences throughout our lives. 

Fear can paralyze you—or motivate you! What you do with it determines your outcome.

I’m sure you’ve heard some of the common acronyms that folks have come up with for FEAR. Some of them make you chuckle. And others may hit a little close to home.

Which one is YOUR acronym? Seriously. Take a hard look at the list, and take a few seconds to learn what you BELIEVE about fear.

  • False Evidence Appearing Real
  • Forget Everything and Run (polite form)
  • Failure Expected and Received
  • Finding Excuses and Reasons
  • False Expectations About Reality
  • Frantic Effort to Avoid Reality
